About MatchMaker Tennis >> Tennis Formats >> Coed Team Tennis

The Most Fun. The Most Variety.

Our unique Coed Team Tennis format mixes it up with men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles...all during the same match.

A coed team consists of 3 players (either 2 men and 1 woman or 2 women and 1 man) per team.

3 on 3 Team Matches

A coed doubles team match consists 4 sets. It is played on 2 courts that are side by side. In the case of a 2 man / 1 woman format, there is 1 set of men's doubles on one court and 1 set of singles on the other court. At the end of the set, the women move over to the doubles court and play a set of mixed. 1 man from each team then moves over to the singles court and plays a set of singles.

Cumulative Scoring for Teams

To ease the pressures of competitive tennis, MatchMaker uses a cumulative scoring format. The match winner is determined by totaling the games won during all six sets. The team with most games won that day, wins the match. This cumulative scoring allows a team to compensate for weaker players or "bad days". Our intent is to play tennis for fun, and to prevent fiercely competitive one sided matches. Cumulative scoring allows any team to have a fair chance at winning up through the end of the season. Each week the scores will be updated on the web site to keep all players abreast of the standings.

If a match ends with a tied score, a tiebreaker is played and 1 game is added to the winning team's score.
