NETiquette -- Tennis Etiquette

The question was - My first serve went wild and hit the doubles opponent stainding closest to the net. Was this a fault?

Good question. Did the ball hit the ground before it hit your opponent? If it did AND the ball was "in", the point is yours. If the ball hit the ground first and was "out", THEN hit your opponent, it was out and you can hit start your 2nd serve.

IF the ball hit your opponent BEFORE it hit the ground or net, the point is yours. It is odd but if you hit your opponent with the ball, you win the point. Maybe that is why so many players try to hit their opponents.
